A short train ride from Lisbon stands the town of Sintra.
Sintra has two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the Palace of Penha, high up in the hills, and the town itself with its romantic architecture.
Sadly the palace and the Moorish castle both stubbornly stayed shrouded in thick fog for my intended morning visit, however the previous afternoon was fine allowing me to enjoy the beautiful botanical garden.
Slovenia
The small nation has much to shout about for natural beauty. Lake Bled is the undoubted highlight.
