Number 1 – Cambodia with Mrs Wilbur
Anybody that has been to South East Asia will instantly remember the first time that they ventured there.
It is a region like no other. A culture completely alien to those of us that live in the West. A region that is completely intoxicating and leaves you wanting more, more, more!
My first spellbinding visit was to Hong Kong, Macau and Canton in China in 1996, followed by Indonesia & Singapore in 1997 and Vietnam in 1998. I then waited more than a decade to return, visiting Thailand & Laos in 2010.
Five years later it was time to return once more, with Cambodia being the main chunk of the trip.
We flew to Phnom Penh via Bangkok and I was immediately so happy to be back in the region.
My biggest thrill however was the reaction of Mrs Wilbur. I knew only too well how amazing it would be for her as she had never ventured that far East before.
Just like I had been nearly twenty-years before, she was spellbound and instantly in love with everything about the unfamiliar surroundings.
We had a brilliant time in Cambodia, Laos & Bangkok and I have shared a few pictures of our trip below.
My first visit to Cambodia also inspired me to write a fiction book set in the wonderful country with a very troubled past. ‘Drip by Drip’ is available from Amazon as an e-book or paperback.

The Khmer Rouge in Cambodia
There are unfortunately some fairly recent grim memories of Cambodia from the ghastly Khmer Rouge regime of the mid to late seventies.
Visiting the site is a compulsion and perhaps one of the most thought provoking visits you will ever make.

Excellent memories. Great picture of Mrs W behind the ironwork. Any travel plans right now?
Only Scotland/N Yorks so far in May. Hoping to finally do TSE in September but no chickens. How about you?
A Tui holiday to Portugal in May but that’s all right now.
Where will you go in North Yorkshire?
Enjoy! Staying in Grantley as a base. Any recommendations around those parts?
Ripon Cathedral and Fountains Abbey if you are members of National Trust and I would say take a ride to Middleham and Leyburn and Wensleydale is always worth a drive out.
