I was first supposed to visit Hungary in 1987 on inter-rail trip one. We had procured a visa and even some Forint, a currency pretty hard to get back then.

This was the time of the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall, so a trip to that part of the world was fall of intrigue at that time.

We would have to report to a police station within 24 hours of arrival to be issued with a permit to stay. We would have to state our entry and exit points, which for some reason had to be different.

We would also have to carry our passports at all times and be subject to random stop & search. This would be very strange for a free-thinking Brit.

A lost passport (by my travel pal) during a drunken evening in Munich put paid to it all. I often wonder what might have been……..

France

The villages of Provence are really delightful. Base your in Aix-en-Provence or Avignon and explore away by car. I will let some pictures do the taking.
