Basque Derby

I made it to my first Spanish League Premier game on Sunday for the match between Athletic Club Bilbao and Osasuna.

I have always had a soft spot for Bilbao ever since discovering that they only have players playing for them that are born in the Basque Region, an area give or take, the size of Greater Manchester.

Despite this they are one of only three teams (Real Madrid & Barcelona are the others) to never have been relegated from the top division.

The match was a contest between two teams from the Basque Country and over 43,000 supporters watched in the magnificent San Mamés Stadium.

The game finished in a one all draw, but the experience overall was top drawer as we mingled with fans before and afterwards for a few glasses of vino tinto in the many nearby bars.
