Euro 24 Match Day 7 – Slovenia v Serbia

The group underdogs meet in Munich. Formerly both part of Yugoslavia, it was Slovenia’s independence declaration in 1991 that set in motion the Yugoslav war and subsequent country break up.

Slovenia

Capital Ljubljana is a great place to visit for a short break. The River Ljubljanica runs through it with three particularly attractive bridges – Dragon, Triple & Cobblers.

Serbia

Belgrade has recently opened a brand new station which now handles all international trains in and out of the Serbian capital.

The old central station was where I arrived from both Sarajevo and Skopje on my two visits.

It was grey, dusty and a little rundown, but also a wonderful place to arrive, full of life & railway nostalgia. The bright, shiny new terminus will never evoke the same kind of feeling upon arrival.
