Friday Photo – Streetwise Filipino Kids

On my recent visit to the Philippines I was struck by the happiness & friendliness of the people. Many don’t have much but are content with their lot.

Family is the most important element for these hard-working, God-fearing people. In every town school is a focal point, often being the largest building in town. The children are all immaculate, proudly wearing their school uniforms.

The picture below was taken in Santa Juliana in the shadow of the Mount Pinatubo volcano. Clearly used to travellers, they were not shy in coming forward.

They lived in family groups in tents in a rural area. A beautiful location lacking much in the way of infrastructure. That didn’t seem to bother these posing, smiley kids.

No doubt their fathers & grandfathers worked the fields whilst the ladies ran family life. All with a smile on their face.
