Number 1 – Cambodia with Mrs Wilbur
Anybody that has been to South East Asia will instantly remember the first time that they ventured there.
It is a region like no other. A culture completely alien to those of us that live in the West. A region that is completely intoxicating and leaves you wanting more, more, more!
My first spellbinding visit was to Hong Kong, Macau and Canton in China in 1996, followed by Indonesia & Singapore in 1997 and Vietnam in 1998. I then waited more than a decade to return, visiting Thailand & Laos in 2010.
Five years later it was time to return once more, with Cambodia being the main chunk of the trip.
We flew to Phnom Penh via Bangkok and I was immediately so happy to be back in the region.
My biggest thrill however was the reaction of Mrs Wilbur. I knew only too well how amazing it would be for her as she had never ventured that far East before.
Just like I had been nearly twenty-years before, she was spellbound and instantly in love with everything about the unfamiliar surroundings.
We had a brilliant time in Cambodia, Laos & Bangkok and I have shared a few pictures of our trip below.
My first visit to Cambodia also inspired me to write a fiction book set in the wonderful country with a very troubled past. ‘Drip by Drip’ is available from Amazon as an e-book or paperback.
