Friday Photos – Art Nouveau in Riga, Latvia

Two years ago I paid my second visit to the Latvian capital.

I love much about the city but perhaps the highlight is the marvelous art nouveau (jugendstil) architecture.

There is a whole district crammed with beautiful buildings and bold sculptures. There is also an excellent jugendstil museum showing how an art nouveau building looks internally.

I went to Riga in 2006 and the Art Nouveau was wonderful but in desperate need of love and attention. I went again in 2007 and they were getting on with the job and by my last visit in 2008 they had done a really good job. Some of the best Art Nouveau in Europe.

It’s great isn’t it. Will never tire of going to Riga.
