Monday Morning Blues – Holy Island, Northumberland

This morning’s picture comes from just over a week ago, which I took on our UK tour.

We arrived on the island by boat from Seahouses and found the place almost deserted as the tide was in making it inaccessible by car at that time.

You can see the 16th Century built Lindisfarne Castle in the distance, a fortification converted into a family home in the early 20th Century by famed architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.

  1. I used to manage a street sweeping contract in Berwick which included Holy Island. A local man did the sweeping and joked that he always knew when a supervisor could and couldn’t get there and could organise his working hours accordingly.
