I am delighted to announce that my new book is now available for purchase through Amazon.
‘Travelling By Train Across The Balkans’ chronicles my trips over the past decade or so in the intoxicating region.
It features travel in Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Northern Greece, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia and European Turkey, plus a dip into Romania.
The Balkan Peninsula conjures up images of conflict and division, unsurprising for a region riven with wars, occupations and land grabs over many centuries.
Most recently we had the horrendous 1990s Yugoslav Wars and it would be true to say that there are a multitude of grievances still harboured by every Balkan nation.
All of this is buried well below the surface, for now anyway, and I have found my travels there fascinating and highly rewarding.
Join me on my travels to meet the intriguing characters I came across and experience the all too frequent amusing mishaps suffered along the way.
300+ pages, 12 countries, 23 train journeys, 4,250 track kilometres and countless dark beers!

Well done Will, Did you see those crazy guys diving off the bridge. We stood and waited and watched for a long time but although they always seemed about to do it they never did!
Thanks Andrew. I have been otherwise engaged lately but should get back to blogging again soon. Yes we saw two dives. They only take the plunge when they have collected enough cash. For once a coach party was a good thing!
